The CSS Group was founded in 1899 and has its headquarters in Lucerne. It insures around 1.7 million people and, with a premium volume of some 7.0 billion Swiss francs, is one of Switzerland's leading health and property insurers. It is the market leader in basic insurance. With around 100 agencies and 2,900 employees, the CSS Group is close to its customers throughout Switzerland.
The CSS Group consists of CSS Holding AG and its subsidiaries. CSS Holding AG is not listed on the stock exchange. It is subject to Swiss company law. The CSS Association is the sole shareholder of CSS Holding AG.
CSS Kranken-Versicherung AG offers mandatory health insurance (basic insurance).
CSS Versicherung AG is responsible for supplementary insurance.
Sanagate AG merged with Arcosana AG, the then subsidiary of CSS, as of 1 January 2022.
As a provider of basic insurance, INTRAS Kranken-Versicherung AG merged with Arcosana AG as of 1 January 2022. In the supplementary insurance business, INTRAS Versicherung AG merged with CSS Versicherung AG.
Arcosana AG merged with CSS Kranken-Versicherung AG as of 1 January 2023.
